Brandy is a spirit that is distilled from wine or a fermented fruit juice. The product is then aged in oak casks to give it its characteristic color. Armagnac and Cognac are the most widely known; they come from southern France.
During the Middle Ages most brandies were produced in monasteries. It was thought to be the cure for everything.
It can be enjoyed by itself, and definitely to flavor foods.
