Chickpeas are a legume that feature prominently in the cuisine of India, and the Middle East where they originated. They were also loved by the Romans, the Greeks, and the Egyptians.
Chickpeas are very nutritious. They are high in fiber, and protein but without the fat. Canned garbanzo beans are still as nutritious as dry ones. One of the best dishes to make with chickpeas is hummus. However feel free to sprinkle them on salads, or eat them cooked seasoned with za'atar.
