dried apricots
I absolutely love eating dried apricots. You can enjoy them by themselves, with a gourmet cheese tray, and also in some savory dishes. This lovely fruit is enjoyed widely in the cuisine of the Middle East and Turkey.
In the last few years I have made quite a few dishes that feature dried apricots, such as couscous and my very favorite tagine.
Apricots are related to peaches and nectarines. They contain antioxidants, fiber and many other nutrients.
The history of apricots goes back to antiquity, when they were cultivated in Central Asia. They were valued by traders who took them on their journeys across the Silk Road. When dried they provided an excellent food source for travelers because they lasted a long time.
