green plantains
Green plantains are a staple in the diets of the Caribbean, Africa, and Central America. They have a starchy taste, and are enjoyed fried. You can eat them as tostones, or fried thin.
Interestingly enough, plantains are thought to come from Southeast Asia, even though they do not feature in the diet of this region. Two types emerged, both of which are grown in India, Africa, and Egypt.
Because plantains are a relative of the banana, they are high in potassium. They also have less starch and sugar than a banana.
