red leaf lettuce
Until recently I did not give red leaf lettuce much thought. Yes, I walked by it in the grocery store, but that was about it. It looks a little bit like romaine lettuce, but the ends are a reddish/purplish color.
Red leaf lettuce makes for a great addition to your salad for so many reasons. First, the color! Food needs to be pretty in my book, and next is the nutritional value. This lovely lettuce will add fiber, vitamin A and vitamin K, nutrients your garden variety iceberg does not have.
The red pigment contains beta carotene and other necessary antioxidants. I think you need to make this lettuce a part of your salad greens. I know I have.
