Hey there! St. Patrick's Day is around the corner, so I decided to do a round up of 10 St. Patrick's Day favorites. No need to head to the pub for any of these. They can all be made at home. Irish pub food is amazing. It's flavorful, hearty and there is something for everyone in the family. My personal favorite? Guinness Stew, hands down. It's rich, and delicious.
My husband is partial to Potato Leek Soup, a favorite in his family.
For a light lunch or dinner whip up a batch of salmon tartlets. They are yummy. They are small, so don't feel guilty having two! If you are throwing a party for St. Patrick's Day, a Guinness Cheddar Fondue will hit the spot especially with your vegetarian friends.
Another vegetarian Irish dish: Carrot coriander soup. It is comfort food at its best. See what I mean, when I say there is something for everybody?
No Irish meal would be complete without a crusty delicious loaf of Irish soda bread; use it to mop up the juiciness of your Guinness Stew. A close cousin of Irish soda bread is Irish brown bread made with molasses. It's great for breakfast, lunch or dinner. When we were in Ireland two summers ago, I ate it every day! By the way it goes without saying, don't forget the Irish butter either.
Perhaps not as popular on this side of the pond is Dublin coddle. Coddle? Yes, coddling is a culinary term. If you do decide to make this, make sure you use bangers, a typical British sausage. It makes a difference. Basically Dublin coddle is another stew.
So FINALLY, we get to the desserts!!!! First we have Irish butter cookies. These are sinful to say the least. They're made with Irish butter. Oh, it does make a difference. You see, Irish butter has higher fat content, These cookies will melt in your mouth. I am drooling right now.
And last, but not least: Irish coffee. A true Irish coffee that is! Forget about what passes for Irish coffee in most American establishments. This recipe comes straight from Foynes, Ireland, Co. Limerick. There is a great story behind the birth of Irish coffee.
Enjoy checking out these 10 St. Patrick's Day Favorites!
Happy St. Patrick's Day! Sláinte!
