Basil is an aromatic herb largely used in Italian cooking. There are multiple species, and depending on that its taste will be different. In the cuisine of Southeast Asia a different variety of basil, known as Thai basil is used. This one has purple flowers.
When you use basil in cooking always add it at the end because the cooking kills the flavor. Use it in Vietnamese pho, or even to flavor ice cream. This is an incredible herb that will add a ton of flavor to your dishes.
