Blue Margarita

Here is my go-to fresh margarita recipe.  No store mix just fresh squeezed lemon juice and blue curacao for a nice ocean beach blue color.  Shake it up and serve or pour over the rocks.

This yields 1 Blue Margarita served in a standard Margarita glass

  • 1 oz lemon juice fresh squeezed juice
  • 1 oz Tequila white, I like Sauza silver
  • 1 oz Blue Curacao
  • 1 lemon slice garnish

  1. Pour all ingredients except lemon slice into a shaker with ice. Shake well. Serve cold and pour into a chilled Margarita glass.
  2. Top with lemon slice.
  3. If you like a salted margarita, take a slice of lemon and rub it around the rim then dip the glass in kosher salt. The salt will stick to the lemon juice.

Recipe Notes

Here are some key tips on how to make a great margarita from scratch.

  • I like to use a clear tequila like Sauza silver for this drink.
  •  Slice your lemon or lemons depending on how many you are making and reserve small slice for each glass.
  • The salted rimmed glass is super easy and do this before you are ready to pour.  Have a small bowl of salt or sometimes I like to use a saucer with kosher salt.  You don't need to buy any fancy margarita salt, I think Kosher salt's texture is just great for this cocktail.  Take your reserved slice of lemon and rub it around the rim of the glass and then dip the rim into the salt. Voila! Salted rim! Shake off any excess salt over the sink.
  • Drop the lemon slice into the glass for a garnish.  Next fill up your shaker with ice, tequila, blue Curacao and lemon juice then shake. Pour this into your glass and enjoy!
