kohlrabi
Don't shy away from the appearance of kohlrabi. It is a bit odd looking, but actually it is pretty easy to cook, and not too bad tasting either. I recently learned about it during a trip to Asia.
Kohlrabi is from the cabbage family, it's part bulb, part greens. You can use it to make slaw, or you can cook it. In my opinion, it is much better raw. You can use it as an ingredient in salad.
The outer skin of kohlrabi is either green or purple. It's easier to peel if you use a paring knife because the outer skin is a bit too thick for a potato peeler.
